Silent Hill Shattered Memories

I knew the 'reboot' was on it's way for Wii and PSP, but I hadn't until recently seen anything of it. But GAME had a dummy box on the shelves and reading the blurb on the back my heart sank.

I then followed that up with a quick look on YouTube for some footage and it confirmed my fears; that Shattered Memories, despite being a reboot of the original game WILL NOT BE SCARY!

Instead of the fog that hugged the town like a bodybag, we now have snow falling. Now when the air-raid siren goes off (assuming there is one) instead of the dark creeping menace of the rust, blood and metal grating we have... Ice. Lots of ice. I just can't help but feel underwhelmed.

Okay maybe I'm jumping to conclusions and I could be pleasantly surprised. I'll probably still pick up the PSP version, but ice doesn't sound remotely scary.

RE: Silent Hill Shattered Memories

I've never played a Silent Hill game. I've seen the film and played plenty of Resident Evil's but never got round to Silent Hill. From the reviews I've seen it sounds pretty good, but probably not if you liked the originals as the gores gone and it's more about clues and problem solving. The only problem for me is many reviews say it's too short, so unless it's very cheap I'll have to wait.

Like you Sample, I consider myself as a Silent Hill fanboy. The 1st one was ultimate horror story shit. Really chilling. And as Beardo said I have heard good things about it...

I also have heard about the ice being a major part of the game, but hope it has not replaced the rust.
What I also heard was that the protagonist has a cell phone which recieves calls/ info. That made me pissed off, as we both know a mobile has no place in SH.

Whats keeping me interested is that IGN awarded it best in show at E3 2009 (blam, wikipedia!). So a definate purcahse for me all the same.

Still, no rust: no Silent Hill Sad

RE: Silent Hill Shattered Memories

I've added the PS2 version to my LoveFilm list and im really looking forwards to getting it. I read somewhere that the game is a "reimagination" of the original Silent Hill so the changes to the game are welcome as far as im concerned.

The "reiminagination" isnt really what interests me in this title, its this

http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/105/1050951p1.html

Quote:
Silent Hill profiles you. Every answer you give and every move you make in the game world is considered and the experience altered based on those replies and actions. And as you advance, the psychologist interrupts your adventure repeatedly with more questions and mental tests. It's an ambitious concept that effects some intriguing scenarios and also enhances replay value. Characters change and behave differently. Areas locked in one play-through are opened up in the next. The world itself is modified. Even the gruesome monsters evolve based on your preferences.

The game attempts to profile the gamer and the game changes depending on the character and personality of the person playing. Someone above mentioned that the game is not scary, but from what i've read It would seem the game chooses when and if to scare you based on the psychological answers you give.

I didnt even play the latest Silent Hill: Homecoming or Origins and in my opinion the series needs a new breath of life, from what ive read and seen it seems that this might just be it

I didn't say it wasn't scary, just that it didn't sound scary. I'm willing to give it a go though.
