The Wii has reclaimed its title of Japan’s favourite next-gen console, according to the latest set of sales figures from Japan.
According to the hardware sales figures for the period 19-25 November, all three next-gen consoles saw an increase in sales, but the PS3 was unable to stave the Wii off for a third consecutive week: Sony’s console selling 50,564 units, compared to Nintendo’s 54,362.
The 360’s sales were ever-so-slightly more modest with 7,117 machines sold – a long way from those of its rivals, but better than last week’s 6,525. Microsoft will certainly be hoping for better things when Lost Odyssey is released next week.
As per normal though, it was the handhelds that dominated. Both saw considerable leaps, with the PSP selling just over 75,000 consoles (up 10,000 on the previous week) while the DS clocked in at a smidgen under 117,000 - an increase of 40,000 units, due in no small part to the arrival of Dragon Quest IV (which sold over half a million copies).
