Mistwalker is looking into making sequels to Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, according to studio boss Hironobu Sakaguchi.
So Gamefront.de is reporting, the father of Final Fantasy told Famitsu Xbox 360 he is currently looking in the possibility of making sequels to Mistwalker’s two 360 RPGs. However, it seems that nothing is set in stone at present.
Although both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey sold well compared to other 360 games in Japan, neither of the Microsoft published games were able to turn around the 360’s flagging fortunes in the country.
More ominously, Microsoft Japan has recently started dropping hints that it may move away from relying on Japanese developed titles to sell the 360 in Japan, and instead attempt to bring more Western titles over instead.
That said, there’s been no shortage of suggestions that a Blue Dragon sequel may be in the pipeline (possibly an MMO title) while a DS version is also currently under development – something that is sure to raise the profile of the franchise.
Whether Lost Odyssey will get another crack of the whip is open to debate. Although the UK version isn’t due out over here until next month, the Japanese version netted a solid, yet unspectacular 7/10 when our sister publication, 360 GAMER magazine, reviewed it a couple of issue ago.
Still, we’d be all for a sequel to Blue Dragon. Come on Microsoft, make it happen!
