Lionhead Studios bigwig Peter Molyneux has said that his next project is to be a “significant scientific achievement.”
Despite still working hard on Fable 2, Molyneux has already started talking about what he intends to do after that, although wouldn’t be drawn on specifics.
“I think it's such a significant scientific achievement that it will be on the cover of Wired,” Molyneux told the magazine’s game blog.
“My next game will not be Fable 3.
“It's not a game I can talk to you about right now, but: AI, simulation, the way characters interact -- we've had smart people working on that stuff for over a decade with the Fable games and Black and White.”
But while Molyneux’s mysterious new title remains just that, he was more forthcoming with details on Fable 2.
Described by Molyneux as currently being “a whole bunch of simulation” and “a mess of AI,” Molyneux spoke of the challenges of making a game as open as Fable 2.
“There's so much that people can do playing it, so many things that they never anticipated,” Molyneux said, before revealing how this had resulted in his team discovering “all sorts of bizarre, weird and wonderful bugs.”
In one instance, he spoke of how Lionhead found that when visiting towns, the locals had a knack of turning on your dog.
A new, more robust morality system was promised as well, with Molyneux saying it should be far more advanced than in the original Fable.
“The tests were too obvious in the last game. Save lives good, kill people bad.
“This time, we know what we're doing with the morality system. If you want to be truly good, you have to sacrifice.
“If I can make you stop and have to really think about what you're about to do next, I've succeeded,” he said.
Fable 2 is out later this year.
