Sony has released a patch to sort out the problem with WipEout HD – but it’s not all good news.
Although the game was well received when it was released a little while ago, some gamers – typically those with more than 50 people on their PSN friends lists – found that the game would freeze while connected to PSN.
According to Sony, the new patch should fix this – albeit at a price.
Although the patch itself fixes the issue, a Sony rep told the PlayStation community forums that “if at any time you have had over 50 users in your friends list whilst playing WipEout HD, it is possible that your saved data has become corrupted.”
“If this situation applies to you,” the post continues, “we strongly recommend that once this update has installed you quit the game and delete your saved data using the Saved Data Utility in the XMB, then re-launch the game to create a new profile.”
Although the support rep reassures gamers that doing so “will not affect your collected trophies or online records,” this does mean that all your campaign mode progress, team loyalties, and in-game settings will be lost. Ouch.
Fortunately, we’ve yet to experience any such problems. That said, we certainly feel sorry for anyone who has – especially as they’re now set to lose their saved data as well.
Still, at least we’ll all be able to enjoy a spot of online racing now.
