2 million copies of Saints Row 2 were shipped during the game’s first fortnight on sale, THQ has announced.
The American publisher confirmed that it had shipped more than two million units of Saints Row 2 globally in its first two weeks, as it announced its second quarter results last night.
No indication was made of how well Volition’s GTA-a-like has sold so far, although THQ did highlight the game’s Metacritic score – which is currently over 80 – as further proof that it is building a successful new franchise.
With the game still in the top ten in the British all-format charts though, all the indications are that it’s selling well.
Sadly, it wasn’t all good news for THQ. Net sales fell from USD 229.3 million to USD 164.6 million, with total losses for the period being USD 115.3 million.
THQ also announced that it would be axing 250 jobs, in a bid to save USD 100 million in development costs, a move which will “put THQ back on the path to growth and profitability in fiscal year 2010,” according to CEO and president, Brian Farrell.
